Learn
two fun and elegant samba dances with Quenia Ribeiro and Quenia's
band, Grupo Ribeiro!
Samba
is the most internationally recognized music and dance form from
Brazil. Samba is a patchwork of many cultural elements pieced
together from Africa, Europe, and the Indigenous people of Brazil.
Developed in Bahia and brought to Rio De Janeiro by people of
African descent, Samba spread to all levels of Brazilian society.
There are many different styles of Samba music and dance in Brazil.
In this instructional DVD Quenia Ribeiro teaches the sexy, and
exciting Samba from Rio De Janeiro. She demonstrates the basic
footwork of Samba and then she breaks the movements down into
concise and understandable steps. The next section in the DVD
focuses on 2 choreographed routines. This style of samba is most
commonly referred to as “Samba No Pe.”
Carnaval is celebrated preceding Lent. The “Escolas De Samba,”
or Samba schools are community based organizations that create
the music, dance, costumes and floats for the Carnaval parade.
In addition to the musicians (bateria), the parade is comprised
of “alas” or wings. Many wings follow choreographed
dance routines similar to the ones demonstrated in this DVD.
• Bonus performances with a live band: 3 dances by Quenia
Ribeiro!

Reviewers: Giza Sangria on Jan 22, 2009 This DVD is great and a lot of fun! I just got done watching it for the first time, it was a little bit challenging but that's what I want- you really get your money's worth! If it was too easy I'd feel let down. The moves were explained clearly and the photography was great. I downloaded the DVD and it was very easy. I will be downloading more soon, I'm very glad they offer this option.
Reviewers: Badriya on Dec 28, 2007 I received this DVD for Christmas, and I am very, very happy with it. I am a belly dancer who wants to learn some samba for fun and also so that I'll be able to throw in some samba moves when samba rhythms come up in a drum solo, as they often do. This DVD will definitely help me achieve both those goals--it's lots of fun, and the teaching is very clear and easy to follow. The studio is bright and well-lit, and the camerawork makes it very easy to see what the instructor is doing. The use of live drummers kicks up the energy in a very positive way. I highly recommend this DVD for belly dancers interested in a little cross-training or for anybody interested in the basics of samba!

Reviewers: Maharet on Aug 24, 2007 A good DVD to get some idea in other dance styles than bellydance. I enjoyed it, even if I will not take so much from it for my own dance.
